CERRITOS (CNS) - Whitney High School in Cerritos was evacuated Thursday when a suspect called a sheriff's station and threatened to detonate explosives at the campus unless a $10,000 ransom was paid.

Deputies responded around 12:50 p.m. to the campus at 16800 Shoemaker after the suspect called the Cerritos Sheriff's Station and made the ransom demand, according to sheriff's officials.

Students were escorted by authorities to Cerritos Park East located at 13150 E. 166th St., where they were released to their parents, authorities said.

Multiple law enforcement agencies searched the campus, and the investigation was continuing late Thursday afternoon.

There were no reports of any injuries.
