SANTA MONICA (CNS) - A person suffered moderate burns and smoke inhalation at a motel fire in Santa Monica, authorities said Sunday.

Firefighters dispatched at approximately 12:38 p.m. Saturday to Holiday Motel & Suites at 1102 Pico Blvd. had the fire under control within 10 minutes, said Capt. Patrick Nulty of the Santa Monica Fire Department.

"Firefighters initiated an aggressive attack on the blaze confining it to the unit of origin and preventing the spread to adjacent units," Nulty said. "One individual, who narrowly escaped the fire, was found by police officers in the alley with moderate burns and smoke inhalation."

The condition of that person was not immediately known. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
