WESTMINSTER (CNS) - Six teenage boys were arrested Friday on suspicion of a racially charged beating of another teen in a Westminster park.

The alleged attack happened about 3:30 p.m. Feb. 10 at Gillespie Park at 9801 McFadden Ave., according Westminster police Commander Kevin MacCormick.

The teen reported the attack at 11:20 a.m. Feb. 21.

The 15-year-old alleged victim told police that 10 other teens "jumped" him in the park when they thought he was using his phone to videotape them, MacCormick said.

The teen was beaten and kicked multiple times in the head, face and upper body while the attackers yelled racial slurs at him, MacCormick said. Police were not releasing further details on the nature of the slurs because four other teens are still being sought, MacCormick said.

The teens arrested Friday were accused of robbery for taking the victim's phone, assault with a deadly weapon and a hate crime, MacCormick said. Three of the boys were taken to Orange County Juvenile Hall, while the others were released to their parents, the commander said.

One of the boys arrested is 17, three are 15 and two are 16. One of the 15-year-old boys lives in Garden Grove and the rest live in Westminster.
