SANTA ANA (CNS) - A suspected burglar who barricaded himself inside a Santa Ana home for several hours was taken into custody Wednesday.

Police were initially called at about 10:15 a.m. to the 800 block of South Sullivan Street by residents of a mobile home park reporting a suspect was attempting to break into residences, according to Sgt. Maria Lopez of the Santa Ana Police Department.

The suspect managed to get into one mobile home and forced a victim to drive him out of the neighborhood to the 2000 block of West 11th Street, where he broke into a home and barricaded himself, Lopez said.

Police set up a perimeter in the area and worked to coax the man out of the home. Around 5:30 p.m., police said the suspect surrendered to officers and was taken into custody. No injuries were reported.

Police said they believed the man was armed, but it was unclear if was in possession of a weapon when he was arrested.

Fremont Elementary School was briefly placed on a lockdown when the standoff began, but it was later lifted and parents were able to pick up their children at the end of the school day.
