LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A man was arrested early Monday for allegedly pushing a firefighter at a fire scene in downtown Los Angeles, police said.

The confrontation occurred about 12:15 a.m. at Flower Street and Olympic Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Firefighters sent to the location on a report of a small rubbish fire quickly extinguished the flames, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

"While extinguishing the fire, the suspect approached LAFD and pushed a firefighter," LAPD Officer Mike Lopez told City News Service. "LAFD generated a help call, and multiple Central units responded to the location."

The suspect ran off, but officers chased after him and arrested him, Lopez said.

The man, whose name was not immediately available, will be booked on suspicion of felony vandalism, Lopez said.

According to a report from the scene, firefighters discovered that the man, possibly a transient, had been using an electric EV car charger that sparked the rubbish fire.
