WILMINGTON (CNS) - Firefighters Monday were at work trying to keep a sinking vessel afloat in the Wilmington area.

The report was made around 3:30 p.m. regarding the incident at 701 S. Shore Rd., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The LAFD said that when firefighters arrived, they found a vessel that had taken on several feet or more of water and was struggling to stay on the surface.

Firefighters located a couple of holes and plugged them while aggressively dewatering the vessel, the LAFD said -- adding that crews were making "great" progress and were optimistic about keeping the vessel afloat.

It  was not known if the recent storms were the cause of the problem.

No further information was immediately available.
