LAPD Station Evacuated Following Possible Hazardous-Material Incident

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - An employee at the Los Angeles Police Department's Central Station opened an envelope containing an unknown substance Wednesday and was taken to a hospital after feeling ill, authorities said.

The incident was reported about 7:40 a.m. at the facility in the 200 block of East Sixth Street, according to the LAPD.

The third floor of the building was evacuated as a precaution, and a hazardous-materials investigation was underway.

The person is a Los Angeles city employee working in the building, police said.

Paramedics took the woman to a hospital in good condition, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department, which reported that no hazard had been found after about an hour.
