LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A male hiker was hoisted by helicopter to safety from 200 feet down an embankment in the Runyon Canyon area of Hollywood Hills West today.

The hiker was rescued at 3:22 p.m. in the 2000 block of North Fuller Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department's Margaret Stewart. The 911 call for help was received at 2:30 p.m. The patient did not wish to be taken to a hospital, so the helicopter landed in an area where paramedics could treat any injuries, Stewart said. The hiker's age was not available, she said.
