LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Authorities searched the campus of University High School in West Los Angeles Wednesday after a report of a possible armed suspect, but found no suspects or evidence of a shooting.

Officers went to the school in the 11800 block of Texas Avenue, near Santa Monica Boulevard and Barrington Avenue, at about 10 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department. After about an hour, police determined there was no security issue and the students were safe, authorities said.

"Not an active shooter situation," police said. "LAPD officers are clearing the scene."

No arrests were reported. The investigation was continuing.

Los Angeles Unified School District officials issued a statement decrying the "unfounded reports of gunshots" fired at the campus.

"Non-credible school hoaxes are a serious offense that Los Angeles Unified takes seriously," according to the district. "Threats disrupt the educational environment, increase stress levels and interfere with law enforcement's ability to protect schools from real dangers. It also poses a serious risk to our community, draining resources and occupying the time of critical first responders."
