Man Charged with Attacking Woman with Hammer in Fountain Valley

SANTA ANA (CNS) - A 22-year-old man was charged Friday with a hammer- wielding sexual assault on a woman in Fountain Valley.

Fernando Diaz was accused of attacking the woman with a hammer on Sept. 30 in a tent, according to the criminal complaint.

Diaz was charged with assault with the intent to commit a sex offense, first-degree burglary and assault with a deadly weapon, all felonies. He also faces sentencing enhancements for the personal use of a deadly weapon and inflicting great bodily injury in the commission of a sex offense.

Police did not immediately respond to  messages seeking further details.

Diaz was scheduled to be arraigned in the jail courtroom in Santa Ana on Oct. 24.
