GARDENA (CNS) - A man allegedly armed with a gun was wounded in a deputy shooting Tuesday in the Gardena area, authorities said.

The shooting was reported abut 12:30 a.m. at a residence in the 300 block of West Redondo Beach Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The wounded man was treated at a hospital, and he was expected to survive, the sheriff's department reported. His name was not immediately released.

Compton Station deputies were sent to the residence on a call of a "family disturbance," the sheriff's department reported.

"Upon the deputies' arrival, they observed a male ... adult armed with a handgun and a deputy-involved shooting occurred," a sheriff's department statement said. "The suspect was struck by gunfire in the lower torso and transported to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for non-life- threatening injuries."

No deputies were injured, the sheriff's department reported. The shooting remains under investigation.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
