Three Men Plead Not Guilty in Fatal Shooting in HB

SANTA ANA (CNS) - Three men pleaded not guilty Friday for their part in the fatal shooting of one man and wounding of two others in Huntington Beach in January.

Defendants Juan Manuel Tobon, 23, Juan Carlos Barrera, 38, and Jesus Duarte, 31, were ordered to return to court for a pretrial hearing June 24.

The three are charged in connection with the fatal shooting of 32-year- old Francisco Talavera-Ruiz on Jan. 29. Police say he was shot in the 17000 block of Koledo Lane. Two other men were also shot, according to court records.

Further details were not immediately available.

Tobon is charged with murder with a special-circumstance allegation of lying in wait. He is also charged with conspiracy and two counts of attempted murder. and faces sentencing enhancements for discharge of a firearm causing death or great bodily injury and the personal use of a firearm.

Barrera is charged with murder with a special-circumstance allegation of lying in wait, two counts of conspiracy and two counts of attempted murder, all felonies.

Duarte is charged with a felony count of conspiracy.
