Following the aftermath of Tuesday’s Robb Elementary school shooting, there has been an outpouring of support for the community.
If you’re interested in helping the Uvalde community, there are numerous ways you can do so.
One way you can help is by donating to the official GoFundMe for the Texas Elementary School Shooting Victims Fund. The VictimsFirst network has started the fund to make sure that 100% of the funds gathered goes directly to the victim base in order to protect the victims’ families and those impacted from fraud and exploitation.
GoFundMe also created a designated hub for all the related fundraisers to help families through this time. The link for that hub can be found here.
Another way to donate is to send funds to the First State Bank of Uvalde. The Robb Elementary Memorial Fund was started by the School District in an effort to help families. If you’re based in Texas, the University Health System, based out of San Antonio, says it has donor rooms for blood donations available over the next several days. More information on how to donate blood is available on the University Health System website.
South Texas Blood and Tissue is also hosting an emergency blood drive Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
"Our hearts are with the Uvalde community," South Texas Blood and Tissue said.
You can schedule an appointment here, but the organization tweeted Wednesday that donor rooms are booked through Saturday. While the center has its appointments booked through the weekend, they have added additional slots to its Memorial Day blood drive and are encouraging people to schedule appointments for the following week as well.
The San Antonio area is also seeking legal help from volunteer attorneys. The San Antonio Legal Services Association (SALSA) is providing pro bono assistance as called upon over the coming weeks. The organization is asking qualified attorneys to email them with their area of practice and availability through the month of June.
