In this 2-hour special we look back at the events in Echo Park Lake where a 200-tent homeless encampment was evicted from the residential park near downtown Los Angeles; we gain insight from a police officer who has walked the Skid Row beat for more than 20 years; we talk with the homeless on Venice Beach.
We also get access to the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Homeless Outreach Services Team (HOST). We see firsthand how deputies interact with the homeless on Venice Beach.
KFI’s Corbin Carson files a status report from Orange County and seeks to answer the question, “How do we solve the homeless situation?”
We also highlight some success stories from people who have been helped by the Los Angeles Mission and Midnight Mission.
Pictures from Venice Beach were taken by Steve Gregory’s official field shooter, Mark Mennie (@markmennie). Mark’s been shadowing Steve for more than 15 years and has captured Steve at work along the US/Mexico Border, on the Red Carpet at the Academy Awards, rappelling down the side of a 4-story building, and on the Streets of Los Angeles.
Unhoused is a production of the KFI News Department iHeartMedia Los Angeles, produced by Steve Gregory and Jacob Gonzalez.
