Millions of Facebook users have been warned about a Christmas scam.
A fraudulent message is aimed at persons who sell products on the platform. The fraud begins with a request for confirmation that the item is still available. The fraudster then requests that the victim pay the insurance on an envelope containing cash, offering to leave the extra money in the envelope.
The buyer then says they need to send UPS to collect the item and that the seller will need to give the driver 'insurance' money worth more than the item, which will be returned to them once the buyer gets the item.
According to reports, if the method is used, purchasers become highly hostile and frequently threaten the seller.
