Sexual misconduct allegations against Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia

An advocate for the #MeToo movement is the last person you'd hear being accused of sexual misconduct, but in February, it happened. California Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia has voiced her support for the #MeToo movement and has called for an end to workplace harassment after being repeatedly sexually harassed by men during her career. However, the irony is that the democratic politician was accused of groping Daniel Fierro at a 2014 legislative softball game. Fierro accused Garcia of drunkenly grabbing his buttocks and trying to grab his crotch.

Fierro, who was 25 at the time, did not report the incident right away because he worried about the long-term consequences that could come with accusing the powerful lawmaker.

After Fierro's allegations were revealed, three more staffers came forward filing a complaint of misconduct against Garcia including heavy drinking and sex talk in the office.

The allegations against Garcia have since been cleared and she plans to return to work Monday after a voluntary leave.
