Republican J.D. Vance defeated Democrat Tim Ryan in Ohio's Senate race, winning by eight points. Vance will take over for Republican Senator Rob Portman, who retired.
Vance was backed by former President Donald Trump, who campaigned with him at a rally on Monday night.
"We just got a great chance to govern, and we need to use it," Vance told his supporters after his victory. "We need better leadership in Washington, DC, and that's exactly what I promise to fight for every single day," he added.
Republican Mike DeWine also won reelection as Ohio's governor, handily defeating Democratic challenger Nan Whaley.
"I will continue to push forward and to lead and to talk about the things that we have to do," DeWine said in his victory speech. "Our goal for every person in this state is to live up to their god-given potential, to remove all barriers that are hindering them from doing that."
