The Supreme Court handed President Donald Trump and his administration a major victory on immigration. In a 5-4 decision, Chief Justice John Roberts wrote that restricting travelers from specific countries was "squarely within the scope of Presidential authority."
The Trump administration had faced multiple setbacks during the 15-month battle over the legality of the immigration restrictions, which banned immigrants from a number of countries with a Muslim majority. During the legal fight, the administration pared back the list of countries involved. The current ban restriction affects people from Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen.
The Trump administration has been enforcing the ban since December when the Supreme Court lifted a stay on the policy that was set by a federal judge.
