LAPD Officer Charged With Assault, Three Other Counts

SAN FERNANDO - A Los Angeles Police Department officer was charged Wednesday with four felony counts stemming from an alleged run-in with a woman who was reportedly his romantic partner.

Anthony Guiterrez, 30, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to one count each of kidnapping and assault with a firearm involving the woman, along with two counts of child abuse under circumstances or conditions likely to cause great bodily injury or death.

Guiterrez is due back in a San Fernando courtroom Dec. 4. A date is scheduled to be set then for a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to allow the case against him to proceed to trial.

He was arrested Monday by officers from the LAPD's Mission Community Police Station and was released on a $350,000 bond shortly after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

LAPD spokesperson Lt. Elpidio Orozco told the Los Angeles Times the department was aware of the officer's arrest, which occurred at a Sylmar residence. The Times reported that the department declined to comment further.

Citing two law enforcement source familiar with the case, The Times reported that Guiterrez allegedly forced his romantic partner out of a San Fernando Valley home at gunpoint during a domestic dispute at their home. He was arrested by officers who responded to a 911 call made by the woman, one of the law enforcement sources told the newspaper.
