In the San Bernardino Mountains, a life-size monument now stands to honor Jackie, the beloved bald eagle of Big Bear, who passed away last month.
The monument, crafted by chainsaw sculptor Paul Waclo, captures Jackie in a majestic pose, soaring with a fish in her talons.
Jackie was a cherished figure in the Big Bear community, known for her graceful flights over the area. The monument is located in a park owned by Mike Wayman, who expressed the community's connection to Jackie. "People that know Jackie, especially from that side, will recognize that's Jackie," Wayman said. "They just like the idea that there's someplace that they can go and see, and remember something that they really had an attachment to."
The statue serves as a tribute to Jackie's memory and the joy she brought to those who watched her. The community hopes that the monument will be a place for reflection and remembrance of the eagle that touched many lives in the region.
