Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn has called for an investigation into Turner’s Outdoorsman, a gun store in Torrance, following the alleged use of a firearm purchased there in an assassination attempt on President Donald Trump.

The incident occurred on April 25 at the Washington Hilton during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

The alleged gunman, Cole Tomas Allen, purchased the shotgun from the Turner’s Outdoorsman location on Hawthorne Boulevard. Allen has been indicted on charges including attempting to assassinate President Trump and assaulting a U.S. officer with a deadly weapon. According to KTLA, Hahn has requested that Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman investigate the store.

Hahn's request is based on data from the California Department of Justice, which indicates that Turner’s Outdoorsman stores in Los Angeles County have been linked to a significant number of firearms recovered at crime scenes. Between 2022 and 2024, nearly 8,000 crime guns in California were traced back to Turner’s locations. The Torrance store alone accounted for 624 of these weapons, ranking it second among individual gun retailers statewide.

Hahn has also urged Torrance officials to adopt stricter regulations on gun stores, similar to those recently enacted in unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County. These regulations include banning the sale of .50 caliber guns and ammunition, creating buffer zones between gun dealers and sensitive areas, prohibiting minors from entering gun stores, and requiring stores to maintain fingerprint logs and security cameras.

Turner’s Outdoorsman has not yet responded to requests for comment. However, Bill Ortiz, the senior vice president, stated that the company discusses potential law enforcement-related information directly with authorities.
