Los Angeles Charity Director Allegedly Stole $23 Million In Homeless Funds

A Los Angeles nonprofit leader has been arrested for allegedly misappropriating millions of dollars intended to help the city's homeless population, using the funds instead for luxury purchases including a $7 million mansion.

Alexander Soofer, 42, who ran the Hyde Park-based charity Abundant Blessings, was arrested Friday (January 23) on wire fraud charges. Federal prosecutors allege he diverted at least $10 million from more than $23 million in homelessness funding received between 2018 and 2025.

Investigators claim Soofer used the misappropriated funds to purchase a $7 million Westwood home, take private jet trips, buy designer clothing, and acquire a vacation property in Greece. Authorities also seized a $125,000 Range Rover during his arrest.
