A man is in custody following a violent incident outside the Westfield Topanga Mall in Canoga Park on Thursday. According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the suspect allegedly shot a woman outside the Cheesecake Factory located at the mall. The incident occurred just before 12:30 p.m. in the 6600 block of Topanga Canyon Boulevard.
The victim, an adult female, was found by officers with a gunshot wound. She was transported to a hospital and is in stable condition. Preliminary reports indicate that the suspect, who was armed with an AR-15 style rifle, was known to the victim, though details about their relationship have not been disclosed.
After the shooting, the suspect fled the scene in a black Mercedes. Police quickly located and arrested him in a nearby parking lot. Aerial footage from Sky5 showed a significant law enforcement presence, with parts of the parking lot cordoned off with police tape.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to be released as authorities continue to gather information.
