Paige Collins, a 25-year-old from Hampshire, England, has shared her harrowing experience with ketamine addiction, which has left her with severe bladder damage. Collins began using the drug at 19, initially as an occasional indulgence at parties. However, her usage quickly escalated to a daily habit, costing her approximately $1,200 a month.
The addiction took a toll on her health, resulting in a condition known as ketamine-induced cystitis. This condition caused her bladder to shrink significantly, leaving it able to hold only 5% of its original capacity. Collins described the alarming symptom of "peeing jelly," which turned out to be the lining of her bladder.
According to People, Collins initially enjoyed the effects of ketamine, but soon found herself trapped in a cycle of dependency. Despite quitting nine months ago, the damage to her bladder is irreversible, and she now requires regular treatments to manage her condition. The Daily Mail reported that Collins used the drug as an escape mechanism, but now she is unable to work and has been largely housebound due to her health issues.
Collins hopes to raise awareness about the dangers of ketamine use, stating, "I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy." Her story highlights the serious and often permanent health risks associated with recreational drug use. As explained by the National Library of Medicine, ketamine can cause severe damage to the urinary tract, including bladder epithelial barrier damage and kidney failure.
