FULLERTON (CNS) - A man was killed when his speeding SUV crashed into a wall Sunday morning in Fullerton, authorities said.

The crash occurred at 12:32 a.m. at Rosecrans Avenue and Gilbert Street, Fullerton police Sgt. Jon Miller told City News Service. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, Miller added.

The gray 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan was speeding northbound on Gilbert just prior to smashing into the wall, the Fullerton Police Department's Kristy Wells said in a statement released later.

Officers arriving at the scene reported that the vehicle sustained significant front-end damage, just north of the intersection on the west side of the street, Wells said.

An investigation was underway to determine the cause of the crash.

"At this time, accident investigators do not suspect there to be any other vehicles involved and it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a factor in the cause of the collision," Wells said.

Anyone with information about the crash was urged to call the Fullerton Police Department at 714-738-6812 or jgreenwood@fullertonpd.org. Anonymous tips can be sent to Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS or www.occrimestoppers.org.
