WWII-Era Shipwreck Found In Great Lakes

A World War II-era shipwreck has been discovered in the waters of Lake Superior.

  • The remains of the 'Arlington' were found 600 feet below the surface near Keweenaw Peninsula.
  • It sank on May 1st, 1940 while carrying wheat to Ontario. The crew managed to escape safely except for the ship's captain, Frederick 'Tatey Bug' Burke, who chose to go down with the ship.
  • The wreck was discovered by researcher Dan Fountain and the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society.
