LONG BEACH (CNS) - A man riding a bicycle was struck and killed by a mid-sized pickup truck in Long Beach, authorities said Sunday.

Around 3:15 p.m. Saturday, a 2021 Jeep Gladiator traveling north on Pacific Place north of Wardlow Road was unable to swerve out of the way of the bicyclist crossing eastbound, the Long Beach Police Department reported.

The bicyclist collided into the side of the pickup truck.

Officers dispatched to the location found the truck's driver, a 43- year-old Long Beach resident, attempting to treat the bicyclist with life- saving measures.

Paramedics rushed the victim to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

"The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation," police said. "Distracted driving, impaired driving and speed were not believed to be a factor at the time of the collision."

Long Beach police urged anyone with information regarding the crash to call them at 562-570-7355. Anonymous tipsters may also call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS, or use the website lacrimestoppers.org.
