I had the chance to sit with Ron Salisbury, the owner of the El Cholo family of restaurants. But he prefers to be called the grandson of the founder. Ron invited me to the original El Cholo on Western Avenue that opened 100 years ago. He wanted to tell me about a fun new way to own a piece of culinary history and help children in need.
In conjunction with the 100th Anniversary of El Cholo, the Salisbury Family, at the start of 2023, launched a One-Million-Dollar Charitable Gift Campaign Benefitting Pediatric Cancer Research. Tax deductible monies raised through the campaign will be donated to Children's Hospital Los Angeles and to Orange County's Children’s Hospital/CHOC Foundation. Learn about all the naming rights opportunities here.
Ron and his family are offering guests at all of their locations the opportunity to acquire Exclusive Naming Rights to an El Cholo Booth (there are 100 booths available for naming, in total, across the seven sites.) Each booth can be named with a charitable donation of $5,000 apiece. For that donation, a permanent plaque will be prominently displayed on each booth. Name a booth here
In addition, the Salisbury Family is also offering guests Exclusive Naming Rights to a Dish to be served at all El Cholo locations for a $25,000 donation.
Also, the Salisbury Family, owners of two prominent, Newport Beach restaurants, are offering guests Exclusive Naming Rights, for a $25,000 donation, to a Dish or a Cocktail at Louie's By The Bay. Also at Louie’s, a VIP Card can be purchased for $250 that will offer guests 20% off their wine selection, as well as 15% off a gift card purchase.
The Salisbury Family is also offering guests at their other Newport Beach restaurant, The Cannery, Exclusive Naming Rights to a Dish, or a Cocktail, or a Sushi Roll for a $25,000 donation. Also, for a $250 donation at The Cannery, guests can get 20% off the restaurant’s wine list (excluding the venue’s 50/50 wine list,) and 15% off a gift card.
