LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A memorial service will be held Thursday to honor police service dogs killed in the line of duty.
Los Angeles Police Department Chief Michel Moore is expected to be on hand for the ceremony, which is set to take place Thursday in the courtyard of LAPD headquarters in downtown Los Angeles.
"During the ceremony and news conference, a bronze statue will be unveiled dedicated to the four K-9s that made the ultimate sacrifice," according to an LAPD statement.
The event will also include a live demonstration of skills by police dogs and their handlers.
Among those also expected to be on hand are:
-- K-9s and their handlers from the LAPD Metropolitan Division, the LAPD Gang and Narcotics Division, and the LAPD Bomb Detection Canine Unit;
-- K-9s and their handlers from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department;
-- a K-9 and handler from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, and
-- a K-9 and handler from the Pasadena Police Department.
