LA County Peace Officers' Memorial Ceremony Scheduled Tonight

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Peace officers killed in the line of duty, including two who died nearly a century ago, will be honored Wednesday evening at the 54th Annual Los Angeles County Peace Officers' Memorial Ceremony.

The ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. at the Memorial Wall on the grounds of the Biscailuz Center Training Academy in the 1000 block of North Eastern Avenue.

Among those expected to be on hand for the memorial are Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna, Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore, El Monte Police Chief Jake Fisher and California Highway Patrol Commissioner Sean Duryee.

"The 54th Annual Los Angeles County Peace Officers' Memorial Ceremony will commemorate the lives of the peace officers who were killed in the line of duty while serving the residents of Los Angeles County," the sheriff's department said in a statement.

The honorees include:

-- Police Officer II Fernando U. Arroyos, of the LAPD;

-- Police Officer Houston R. Tipping, of the LAPD;

-- Sgt. Michael D. Paredes, of the El Monte PD;

-- Police Officer Joseph A. Santana, of the El Monte PD;

-- Officer Morgan W. Honeycutt, of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, who died on Dec. 19, 1928;

-- Officer John M. Black, of the sheriff's department, who died on Nov. 22, 1929;

-- Officer Andy Ornelas, of the CHP, who died on Nov. 23, 2020;

-- Detective Amber Leist, of the sheriff's department, who died on Jan. 12, 2020;

-- Officer Juan J. Diaz, of the LAPD, who died on July 27, 2019; and

-- Officer Esmeralda P. Ramirez, of the LAPD, who died on June 9, 2019.
