The newly-launched '988' Suicide and Crisis Lifeline has already reached millions of people.
- The line received 1.7 million calls, texts, and chats in its first five months - more than its predecessor, the 10-digit Suicide Prevention Lifeline, would get in a year.
- The 988 number was launched last July as a quick, easy-to-remember way to put people in crisis in touch with a mental health professional.
- The line now plans to expand further with additional funding from the recent federal spending bill.
