Epic Games, the makers of the wildly popular video game Fortnite, will pay $520 million to settle an FTC investigation into privacy violations and deceptive practices.
- The company was accused of 'tricking' players into making unwanted purchases - by making it easy to accidentally buy cosmetics and difficult to get a refund.
- Epic was also accused of violating the Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule by keeping voice and text-chat on by default, exposing young players to possible harassment.
- Epic has already made a number of changes to its privacy policies as a result of the investigation.
