LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The Los Angeles Parks Foundation received a $236,000 donation to rebuild a playground at Pan Pacific Park that was damaged by a fire, park officials announced Tuesday.
The donation was made by the Hackman Capital Partners-owned television studio Television City, and is intended to repair the damage caused by the July 13 fire at the park, which is located at 7600 Beverly Blvd.
The Los Angeles Fire Department could not confirm how the fire started, but a Pan Pacific Park employee told the Beverly Press that park officials were "going on a pretty secure guess that it was a homeless [individual] that set it on fire."
The donated funds will be used by Los Angeles Parks Foundation to build an ADA-accessible playground by summer 2023, and will cover the cost of equipment, installation and community outreach. The playground will cater to children between the ages of 2 and 5 , and will include a spiral slide, tilted rock wall and tic-tac-toe panel.
"We are so grateful to Television City and Hackman Capital Partners for this donation as a park playground plays a vital role in connecting a community," said Carolyn Ramsay, executive director of the parks foundation.
"Parks and playgrounds help kids learn balance, coordination, dexterity and social skills while having fun," she added. "It is crucial that community parks and playgrounds be as accessible and inclusive as possible, providing a place for children and adults to be active and enjoy time outdoors."
