A Brazilian fisherman whose boat sank in the Atlantic Ocean has survived an 11-day ordeal in which he floated alone... in a freezer... with no food or water.
Romualdo Macedo Rodrigues says he was on a three-day fishing trip when his boat began taking on water and sank off the coast of northern Brazil.
"I was desperate," Rodrigues says. "I thought my end was coming. But thanks God, God gave me one more chance. I saw the freezer wasn't sinking. I jumped inside it."
In addition to living with no food or water for the 11 days, Rodrigues says he had to fend off some unwanted visitors.
"Sharks were surrounding the freezer, but they went away," he says. "I thought I would be attacked. I stayed on the top of the freezer. I didn't sleep. I saw the dawn, the dusk."
He was finally rescued by a group of fishermen who found him off the coast of Suriname, and has now returned home.
"That freezer was God in my life," Rodrigues says. "The only thing I had was the freezer. It was a miracle."
