LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A heat advisory is in effect until 7 p.m. Sunday in parts of Los Angeles County, where many areas are expected to see highs over 100 degrees.
The advisory applies to the Los Angeles County and Santa Monica mountains, and the Santa Clarita, San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys.
Sunday's high was expected to reach 104 degrees in Lancaster, and 102 in Santa Clarita, Woodland Hills and Van Nuys, according to the National Weather Service.
The high in downtown Los Angeles was expected to be 91.
In Orange County, a high of 92 was forecast for Anaheim, and 93 in Fullerton, while Huntington Beach was in for a more comfortable 76 degrees.
Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air- conditioned room and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
The weather service said the high temps and dry weather would create elevated fire danger in the mountains, deserts and valleys. The NWS also called for a slight chance of thunderstorms Monday and Tuesday afternoon over the far eastern Los Angeles County mountains.
Temperatures are expected to drop by a few degrees Monday, but remain very hot throughout the week and into next weekend, with highs in the 90s and triple digits in the valleys.
