WINNETKA (CNS) - Police said Monday that excessive speed may have caused a three-vehicle crash in Winnetka that killed three men and injured six other people.

The crash was reported about 9 p.m. Sunday in the 19700 block of Vanowen Street., according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.

Two 30-year-old men and one 25-year-old man died at the scene, their names withheld pending notification of relatives, Stewart said.

Six other people were taken to hospitals with "potentially serious injuries," she said. They all had stable vital signs when transported. Their ages, genders and extent of injuries were not available.

Los Angeles Police Department Capt. Andrew Neiman told reporters at the scene the Ford Explorer with the three men inside was moving at 65-70 mph in the 35 mph zone at the time of the crash.
