Instagram To Test Facial Recognition For Kids

Instagram is working on an idea to better determine kids’ ages online.

The Meta-owned social platform is partnering with tech company Yoti to test technology that would use facial scanning to verify children’s ages to prevent unwanted contact from adult strangers.

They also say it would also help limit some advertisers’ ability to reach kids.

However, not all agree it's such a good idea...

“It’s problematic because there are a lot of known biases with trying to identify by things like age or gender,” Daragh Murray, a senior lecturer at the University of Essex's law school said. “You’re essentially looking at a stereotype and people just differ so much.”
