LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A man who sued former NBA Laker Metta Sandiford-Artest and his wife, alleging they were at fault for a 2019 traffic collision in Westwood in which he was injured, has dropped his lawsuit.
Lawyers for Alessandro Dakdouk filed court papers Thursday with Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Daniel M. Crowley asking that their client's case against Sandiford-Artest and his spouse, Maya Sandiford, be dismissed. The court papers did not state whether a settlement was reached or if Dakdouk is not pursuing the case for other reasons.
The crash occurred March 7, 2019, at Westwood Boulevard and Ohio Avenue when Sandiford, with her husband as her passenger, drove out of a FedEx Office Print & Ship Center parking lot, made a U-turn and collided with Dakdouk's car, which was traveling north on Westwood Boulevard, according to the suit. Sandiford-Artest was sued because he owned the car, the suit stated.
Dakdouk sought unspecified damages for wage loss, personal injury and property damage. In their court papers, lawyers for the defendants stated that the plaintiff himself was negligent, assumed the risk of injury and was not entitled to damages.
Sandiford-Artest changed his name from Ron Artest to Metta World Peace in 2011, then changed it again to Metta Sandiford-Artest in 2020.
