- A convicted murderer on the run since escaping a prison bus last month was shot and killed by law enforcement late Thursday southwest of Centerville, Texas.
- An official with the Texas prison system said 46-year-old Gonzalo Lopez was found after he allegedly killed a Houston family of five and stole their truck from a rural cabin.
- Police went to investigate the cabin area after someone called for a wellness check after not hearing from a relative.
- When officers responded, they found the bodies of "one adult and four minors."
- The family's white pickup truck was missing. A search for the truck then turned up Lopez nearby, who was killed in an exchange of gunfire with authorities.
- Lopez had been serving a life prison sentence for a 2006 murder.
