For those who love pizza delivered straight to their front door – this news might not sit well. There’s officially a shortage of pizza delivery drivers in the U.S. Pizza Hut and Domino’s say the driver shortage is impacting their ability to get piping hot pizza to peoples’ doors.

The situation is similar to the shortage of drivers in the trucking industry, which has contributed to product shortages and rising inflation. Uber and Lyft have also been hit with driver shortages so they’ve added some incentives to get more drivers working for them.
So what’s the solution for the pizza industry? Perhaps automation and robots. Another idea is to outsource order taking to third-party call centers. Officials say addressing this shortage will most likely mean offering higher wages to drivers. And what’s that mean for customers? You guessed it – more expensive pizza.
