Although the pandemic may appear to be slowing down, California is still reporting an average of 3,286 new cases a day.
The figure, released Tuesday by the California Department of Public Health, brings the state's total number of cases to 8,587,792.
Officials also reported a daily average of 15 fatalities per day, bringing the death toll to nearly 90,000 at 89,391.
The Department of Health says unvaccinated people are 5.5 times more likely to contract COVID-19 than people who have received a booster shot.
