LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Rapper A$AP Rocky was arrested today at Los Angeles International Airport in connection with a November 2021 shooting in the Hollywood area, authorities said.
The 33-year-old rapper, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, was arrested early Wednesday morning on suspicion of ``assault with a deadly weapon, firearm,'' according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for filing consideration, the LAPD said.
Rocky was arrested after arriving on a private plane from Barbados, where he had been on vacation with his pregnant girlfriend, the singer Rihanna, according to NBC News and TMZ. The arrest stems from a November 2021 shooting in which an alleged victim claimed Rocky shot at him three or four times, grazing his left hand.
According to the LAPD, the shooting occurred at about 10:15 p.m. on Nov. 6, 2021, when ``an argument between two acquaintances occurred in the area of Selma Avenue and Argyle Avenue.''
``The argument escalated and resulted in the suspect firing a handgun at the victim,'' police said in a statement. ``The victim sustained a minor injury from the incident and later sought his medical treatment. Following the shooting, the suspect and two additional males fled the area on foot.
Detectives worked diligently to investigate and corroborate the reporting information, which helped identify the suspect(s) involved. The suspect has been identified as 33-year-old Rakim Mayers, a Los Angeles resident, also known as music artist A$AP Rocky.''
Anyone with information on the crime was urged to call detectives at 213-486-6860, 877-LAPD-247, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
