LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Los Angeles International Airport today tested its readiness to respond to a potential aircraft crash, with more than 150 emergency response personnel from 15 organizations participating.
The 2022 LAX Air Exercise was aimed at evaluating the airport's operational capability and readiness in the case of an emergency in which people, equipment and materials need to be deployed to respond.
The Federal Aviation Administration requires the unrehearsed exercises to take place every three years.
Along with personnel from Los Angeles World Airports, participating organizations included the Los Angeles, Los Angeles County and El Segundo fire departments; the county coroner's office; FBI; FAA; U.S. Customs and Border Protection; and the U.S. Coast Guard.
About 150 volunteers, some of whom wore makeup to simulate injuries, played accident victims.
The exercise was monitored by experienced evaluators, and more than 100 observers also were on hand to learn from the large-sale training.
Observers represented dozens of airlines, the U.S. State Department, and the consulates of United Kingdom, Canada, Hungary, Italy, Poland, South Africa, Spain, Thailand, Japan, Mexico, Australia, Argentina and Austria.
Airport officials will use the information gathered during the exercise to refine emergency response plans.
