Porto’s Bakery Set to Open in Northridge Next Week

The long-awaited opening of Porto’s Bakery in Northridge is over! The iconic Echo Park original is set to take over the city of Northridge when its doors open this upcoming Tuesday, April 12th. It will be the first Porto’s to open in the San Fernando Valley.

Located on the backside of the Northridge Fashion Center on Tampa Ave. and Nordhoff, the gorgeous new building is a welcome addition to the area.

Porto’s Bakery has been setting up a stand at the Northridge Famer’s Market for the past few months to sell its freshly baked Cuban pastries.

Every week there’s a line wrapping around their tent as people anxiously anticipate biting into one of their delicious potato balls or guava and cheese strudel.

Raul Porto, President of Porto’s, says that a survey was conducted seven years ago to find where the next bakery’s location should go; Northridge stood out above all others.

The Cuban-family-owned and operated bakery has been around for nearly 40 years – Rosa Porto began the business in her own home back in Cuba. She moved in the 1960s to California with her 3 children. After settling down in Los Angeles, Rosa continued baking and selling her highly coveted, delicious pastries and eventually opened her first bakery in Echo Park.
