POMONA (CNS)- Two suspects -- one who police say is a member of a gang that has been involved in several recent crimes in Pomona -- are in police custody today on multiple charges.
Pomona resident Joshua Perez, 21, was arrested for brandishing a firearm, being a felon in possession of ammunition, being in possession of a loaded firearm and resisting arrest, said Sgt. Mark Medellin of the Pomona Police Department.
David Lazaro, 32, of Rancho Cucamonga, was arrested for an outstanding parole violation.
Pomona police officers were patrolling the area near Angela and Chanslor streets at approximately 8 p.m. Tuesday when they received an anonymous tip about a suspicious white car driving around the area. The occupants of the car were reported to be pointing a handgun at residents in the neighborhood, Medellin said.
Officers arrived at the scene and spotted a white car driving recklessly in the area. The car sped through a stop sign and came to an abrupt stop where a man ran out of the car, according to police. Officers stopped the car and established a perimeter to search for the man when they received a call regarding a prowler in the 2000 block of Pinehurst Place. Police said they determined it was the man who jumped out of the car and who they identified as Perez, a local gang member. When officers approached Perez, he resisted arrest, Medellin said.
Officers took Perez into custody and a search revealed he was armed with a handgun.
Lazaro was one of the occupants of the white vehicle and police arrested him after learning that he was wanted for a parole violation.
Both men were booked at the Pomona City Jail.
