LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A man was shot during a robbery then struck by a car in South Los Angeles today.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies were called just after 12:10 p.m. to the intersection of Budlong Avenue and 109th Street in the Westmont area of Los Angeles on reports of a traffic collision and found the man suffering from gunshot wounds at the scene, according to a department statement.

Deputies learned the man was in the area to look at a car that was for sale when he was approached by a suspect who attempted to rob him. Two additional suspects participated in the robbery, and one drew a handgun and shot the victim.

The man ran into the street after he was shot and was struck by a car traveling southbound on Budlong. He sustained ``traumatic injuries as a result of the traffic collision'' and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The man's name was withheld pending notification of his next of kin. It was not immediately clear if he died of the gunshot wounds or the injuries suffered in the crash.

The LASD did not specify if the driver remained on scene following the collision.

The suspects ran from the scene westbound on 109th Street following the shooting. They were described only as males.

Anyone with information on the shooting was asked to contact the LASD Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Anonymous tips can be called in to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or submitted online at lacrimestoppers.org.
