Officials in South Carolina will not file charges against a boater that saved some jet skiers after falling in water and later killing one.

According to officials from the Oconee County Sheriff's Office, they say the unnamed boater said he shot the man, claiming self-defense.

Fox Carolina News said that the shooting took place near the Fall Creek Landing Number 2 at Lake Keowee. 29-year-old Nathan Drew Morgan was killed by an unnamed 74-year-old man.

The 74-year-old man and his wife saw the jet skiers that had fallen into the water and drove their pontoon over to help get them out of the water. According to officials, once they saved Morgan, he got agitated on the boat and began assaulting the couple that saved him.

Investigators believe that Morgan and the woman he was with may have wanted to get back on their jet ski and say that he and the woman may have been arguing prior to them falling into the lake. Morgan may have also been intoxicated during the ordeal, according to Sheriff Mike Crenshaw.

After Morgan was saved and on the boat, the woman he was with pushed him back into the water trying to stop Morgan from assaulting the couple. The couple that saved him the first time, helped him get back onto the boat after he was pushed back in. The 74-year-old man then shot Morgan because he "feared for his and his wife's lives".

Morgan would die on the boat from a gunshot wound to the chest.
