AZUSA (CNS) - A sheriff's helicopter went down today near the San Gabriel Dam in the Angeles National Forest near Azusa, injuring the six people aboard, including a doctor on a ride-along.

The crash occurred just before 5 p.m. off San Gabriel Canyon Road (39) near Mile Marker 21.7 and the San Gabriel Dam, said Deputy Alejandra Parra of the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

Air Rescue 5 was on its way to a call for service when it crashed, Parra said.

The six occupants were taken to Pomona Valley Hospital, where Sheriff Alex Villanueva held a press conference revealing that all had stable vital signs and that the sixth person on board was a UCLA doctor on a ride-along. The others were two pilots and three medics.

The cause of the crash was not immediately available, Parra said.
