POMONA (CNS)- A 43-year-old Pomona resident who police say is a known gang member is in police custody today on multiple counts of possession of a firearm and narcotics.
Rudy Woo was arrested for possession of a controlled substance with a firearm, possession of methamphetamine for sale, transport of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of a loaded/unregistered firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm and being a felon in possession of ammunition, said Pomona Sgt. Mark Medellin. He was booked in the Pomona City Jail.
A Pomona police patrol officer and his trainee were in the area of Seventh Street and White Avenue around 1:26 a.m. when they saw a car on the roadway that had an expired registration and made a traffic stop, Medellin said.
During the traffic stop, another officer arrived and recognized Woo from previous arrests, police said. Based on his probationary status, the officers explained to Woo that his car was subject to be searched.
At that point, Woo admitted to possessing a loaded firearm in the car.
Officers then searched the vehicle and found the loaded firearm, several handgun magazines, ammunition, suspected methamphetamines and marijuana.
The officers subsequently arrested Woo for possessing the illegal items.
