Man Arrested After Standoff With Police in North Hollywood

NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CNS) - An armed suspect surrendered to police this morning in North Hollywood after a standoff that lasted nearly 5 1/2 hours.  

Police were called to a homeless encampment at approximately 8:15 p.m. Friday near the Sherman Way exit of the Hollywood (170) Freeway regarding a man with a weapon inside a homeless encampment, said a Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman.  

SWAT officers were called to the scene after several hours of unsuccessfully trying to persuade the man to surrender.  

Officers took the suspect into custody around 1: 20 a.m. Saturday, police said.  

No officers or civilians were injured.
